Grass/Leaves

Grass, Leaves, & Light Garden Residue

Defined: grass clippings, leaves, garden residue and weeds. Does not include tree branches, limbs, twigs or shrubbery.

Composting

Composting is the microbial process that converts plant materials into a rich soil conditioner or mulch as a natural way of recycling. Finished or cured compost is excellent for vegetable gardens and flowerbeds. It aids in moisture retention and adds organic matter to the soil.

To reduce yard waste, keep grass clippings and leaves on the lawn through a mulching or similar process. Build your own backyard composting pile. To create a compost pile simply collect yard waste in a convenient spot, keep the pile damp, and turn it occasionally to speed up the decomposition process.
